Notes on Current Android Box Hardware
SCISHION V88 TV Box
I bought one of these Oct 2016 http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_401686.htmlNotes
- only about NZ$40 landed
- not really quick enough as a general purpose android box without a bit of mucking around
- new android firmware available that kills multitasking for a bit better performance
- works ok to run Kodi relatively well at 1080p
- can play video in 4k apparently (not menuing though) but not tested by me
- remote works fine for Kodi (however I prefer CEC and my Panasonic remote with a RPi)

K1 Plus Amlogic
I also have one of these which I bought last year locally for about NZ$100 and use for a photobooth app and nothing else. Works ok for that. I had to strip a bunch of bloatware from it however.http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_262158.html review: http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/11/28/k1-plus-amlogic-s905-tv-box-review/
Other options
Matricom G-Box Q² - Android specific box with favourable reviewsODROID C2 – single board pc like RPi, but there an android build for it
Ouya I bought one of these a few years back via kickstarter and it will run vanilla android pretty well
Roku 3 Possibly, but limited functionality and it is pretty locked down
NVIDIA SHIELD Pro $300+ but probably one of the best android boxes around
Android for Raspberry Pi
Android on RPi is progressing but I wouldn’t bother yet (graphics issues with proprietary drivers). Nougat is supposed to support it natively, but probably just the IoT version which is pretty cut down.https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/android-raspberry-pi/
