Large TV Recessed Mounting
This was a setup in our rumpus room to house a TV. I made the recess etc probably 8 months before I even thought about getting a TV for it, and I sort of ‘estimated’ the size I’d need. The back of the recess is 12mm MDF and it is set 100mm back from the Gib. There was heaps of room behind this wall due to how this area under the house is constructed. Using a sheet of MDF meant I didn’t need to worry about what I was going to do with a TV bracket later – it could be screwed anywhere.
Well, it turned out that it was a perfect size for a Toshiba 75″ model, which had come down massively in price so we got one and I fitted it. Interestingly enough I should have got it delivered… the box only just fit on my trailer and it was an absolute nightmare to manoeuvre and fit.
I got cables for every one of the TV connections and bought them down to a small ‘media box’ I found from a local supplier (yes… it isn’t very straight… I need to adjust the mounting). I also used an old downpipe I found and attached it behind horizontally from the cable hole to an accessible point, so I could pull more cables if needed (you can see it in one of the pics).
The long TV cabinet we already have will eventually sit below it with the equipment inside, and I have a couple of options for audio/amps/speakers that I’m working though as I’ve pre-wired for rear speakers, subwoofer etc.
(Note that the Toshiba TV was problematic after a few months and was warranty replaced with a much better JVC)
