Shorts: Bosch… not bosch

I had a Bosch optiflow 26 califont installed in 2017 (7 years ago). It has been nothing but trouble, initially I got it because the specs looked better on paper, and it had a Bluetooth interface to an app (which ended up being pretty useless due to short range). I also had to additionally buy a wall controller anyway, as it showed an error every few months and the wall controller was the only way to reset it. The Bluetooth app actually stopped being updated after a couple of years anyway and wouldn’t work on later versions of Android.

Bosch hadn’t been much help unfortunately and my plumber couldn’t figure out why (sometimes the error said it was due to low gas flow, but often that was the only gas item running). A few weeks back I couldn’t even get the wall controller showing the screen (it came right after a day).

Today, after having no hot water for most of the day last weekend, we had a new Rinnai Infinity EF26 installed with a wall controller. The controller cable was the same 2 core luckily, and even though the Bosch used a euro style flush box, a AU/NZ one was pretty easy to pop in.

The EF26 was a bit more cost than their standard model A series, but is apparently one of the most efficient available as it preheats the incoming water via exhaust gases.
Next plan is to look at getting it controlled via the home automation system…
